Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the timing of your grant cycles, and what is the deadline for proposal submission? Overall, how long does it take to receive a grant?
A: The Foundation reviews grant proposals on an ongoing basis. In general, we aim to provide a decision within four months of the date a proposal is received. However, this timeline may vary depending on the size of the request, the number of proposals being considered, and the need for additional information. The board considers grant applications four times per year.
Q: Does the Foundation award grants or scholarships to individuals?
A: No. The Foundation supports organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. We do not award grants to individuals for projects of any kind, including for research, conferences, scholarships, or artistic works. Please visit our Resources page for links that may be of use to individual grantseekers.
Q: Does the Foundation award multi-year grants?
A: From time to time, the Foundation does consider multi-year support to organizations we have funded before. Fist time grantseekers should submit a proposal for a one-year grant.
Q: Does the Foundation award general operating support as well as restricted program support?
A: The Foundation recognizes that general operating funds are necessary to support the core work of organizations, however we often find that general support requests provide fewer details about the organization's programs, results and outcomes. For this reason, we often suggest that first-time applicants submit a request for a specific program or project if possible.
Q: What is the average size of your grants?
A: Grant size varies according to the type of project and focus of the organization. Please review our list of recent grants to learn more about our funding levels and priorities.
